This year, some of Spawn’s toughest people are tackling one of Alaska’s most iconic races — the Lost Lake Run, near Seward, Alaska. This spectacular, challenging event isn’t your typical run in the park.  Instead, it’s a 15.75-mile course that follows a U.S. Forest Service Trail in the Chugach National Forest toward a peak elevation of 2,100 feet.

Aside from the spectacular views and the satisfaction of finishing, what’s their goal? To raise money to combat Cystic Fibrosis. (You can help them reach their goals by donating here.)

Copywriter Elyse Delaney tracked down some of these women on the run to find out a little more about their approach to the race. Here’s what she discovered:

First up is our fearless leader, Karen King.

Are you a regular runner?

Karen doesn’t consider herself a runner, but she’s very active. (See her giant biceps for proof.)

What’s your favorite song to run to?
